Wastewater Connection Restrictions

Manukau Water Limited owns and operates the sewerage system carrying contaminated wastewater away from houses and businesses.

The sewer system was first built in the 1950s and 1960s and has undergone constant expansion to cope with the substantial growth in Manukau’s population.

The majority of areas in Manukau City have capacity for further wastewater connections. However, certain pockets are now nearing their capacity. These areas have restrictions limiting new wastewater connections. Such zones are indicated in red on the map below.

To find out if your site is affected by wastewater restrictions:

  1. Click on the area where your site is located.
  2. Identify your site’s catchment number and colour.
  3. Refer to the accompanying table for the minimum size required for a new wastewater connection.

Remember, your site still needs to meet Manukau City Council’s District Plan requirements.
